Since 1991, Dr. Wayne Macfadden has been a Diplomate with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

A non-profit organization, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology works to uphold an outstanding level of excellence throughout the fields of psychiatry and neurology. To become a member, the ABPN requires that a candidate undergo a thorough examination and maintain their certification over the course of their practice.

There are a number of special skills a medical professional must possess in order to become a member of the organization. As a psychiatrist, he or she must treat disorders such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, psychosis, sexual dysfunction, and developmental conditions. Neurologist candidates must treat conditions such as stroke, brain tumors, muscular dystrophy, meningitis, and headaches, among others.
